The following terms and conditions relate only to the booking of car hire. Please note that customers are required to sign a rental contract directly with the car hire supplier upon collection of the vehicle. Information about specific rental conditions is available when making a booking.
What's not included?
Optional Top-up Insurance
We provide an optional top-up insurance product which can be purchased at the time of booking. This provides cover against any loss or damage to the vehicle which is not covered by the car rental company including wheels, tyres, glass, under body, roof, interior, keys, locks and misfuelling. In the event of a loss you will have to pay the car rental partner directly and then claim the amount back from our insurance provider.
The maximum and minimum age varies between car rental providers. We always state the minimum and maximum age when booking. We work with many different car rental providers, and we may be able to accomodate drivers who are younger or older than the limits stated.
Most of the car rental providers require a valid credit card when collecting the vehicle, this CANNOT be a pre-paid card, or a debit card and MUST have sufficient funds available. If a credit card is required it is stated at the time of booking. We recommend to all clients that a valid credit card is always taken as a precaution when travelling in a foreign country.
Includes public liability cover and third party liability cover for the driver(s). As part of our full collision damage and theft protection package, rentals include full collision damage waiver with no insurance excess and full theft waiver with no liability in the event that the vehicle is stolen. Where specified some rentals will be subject to an insurance excess but will include an additional excess reimbursement insurance, so customers can make a claim for reimbursement in the event that they are charged for collision damage or theft. This information is clearly stated at the time of booking.
The insurance does not normally cover tyre and wheel damage, interior damage, damage to the roof, damage to the underside of the vehicle, damage to the glass parts of vehicle (including the windscreen), wing mirrors, loss or damage to the car key, locks, aerials, windscreen wipers, vehicle documents, registration plates and any additional equipment provided with the vehicle. Clients are responsible for all damage and expenses incurred as a result of incorrect use of the vehicle or misfueling. Personal injury and personal effects are NOT covered, however these are normally covered by your travel insurance policy.
In addition to the insurance cover provided by the car rental supplier for their vehicle, hirers should ensure that they have a full personal travel insurance policy.
The insurance becomes INVALID if anyone whose name is not on the contract drives the vehicle, also if vehicles are loaded with more passengers than their stated capacity; or if drivers are found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Insurance cover will also lapse in the event of negligence or if the vehicle is driven on an unmade road or any road unsuitably narrow for vehicles to be driven on. Insurance may also lapse if the vehicle is taken on a ferry.
Economy Car Hire Ltd acts solely as a car hire broker for various independent vehicle rental companies within the countries that we operate. Clients should note that the contract for vehicle hire is between the hirer and the local car rental company and is subject to the law of the country in which it is supplied to you and for this reason you will be required to sign a rental contract with the rental company which supplies the vehicle. Economy Car Hire Ltd accepts no responsibility whatsoever for loss, damage, injury or death, whether arising from negligence, breach of contract or any other cause. Economy Car Hire Ltd deny any liability for suppliers not fulfilling the contract.
Rentals under 7 days are charged at a higher daily rate. The minimum rental charge is for 3 days hire. The start date determines the seasonal rate applied. Prices are calculated on the basis of 24-hour units, dependent upon the supplier's grace-period which is usually between 1 and 4 hours. Your Booking Voucher is also your receipt of purchase. We do not issue VAT receipts.
Location information including meeting instructions and local charges are correct at the time of booking, however, they are subject to change without notice. Where possible, customers will be informed about any changes.
Road tolls are not included in the rental price and therefore any local charges relating to road tolls, traffic fines etc. are between the hirer and the car hire supplier (or the authorities). Any information that we provide relating to Road tolls is for guidance only and we cannot be held responsible or enter into any correspondence relating to any issues which may arise.
Out of Hours Charges
When clients are arriving at an airport out of normal hours, there may be an additional charge which is payable locally. We always state the opening hours and applicable charges for every airport destination. In the event that a flight is delayed and the pickup time falls out of normal hours, an out-of-hours charge may be applied.
It is important that the car rental supplier confirms your request for a border exit to another country, otherwise insurance cover will not be provided. When taking vehicles out of the country from which they are hired, full breakdown service may not be available, please check with our office in the UK before travel.
Although the car rental supplier provides recent model vehicles, we recommend that you check your vehicle before driving away. (Lights, indicators, all tyres including the spare wheel, etc.) If you are not completely satisfied with any part of the vehicle, this is the time to say so and, if necessary, ask for an alternative vehicle. Every effort will be made to provide the specified model, however, it may be necessary to provide a vehicle with similar specifications (or better) as cars are changed frequently. Any mechanical problems with your vehicle should be reported immediately to the car rental supplier. The car rental supplier can refuse to provide a vehicle to any customer who is, in their opinion, unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances no refund will be due. The car rental supplier reserves the right to apply an additional charge if the vehicle requires extra cleaning following your rental.
Damage to Vehicles
A damage report must be completed by the driver for any damage to the vehicle, however minor it is. If a collision occurs, a police report and case number must also be provided. Clients must contact the car rental supplier immediately in the event of any damage. If this procedure is not followed, the insurance cover could become invalidated, leaving clients liable for all damage.
Extending the rental duration
Extending the rental duration must always be done directly with us. If you are extending the rental whilst the rental is taking place, we need to get confirmation of the extension from the car rental supplier. If the vehicle is not available for the extended period, it must be returned at the original time. Failure to return the vehicle on the specified date and time will result in the lapse of insurance cover. The supplier will also charge you directly for any additional time at a higher rate.
Cancellations and Amendments
Cancellations and amendments must always be made with us and not directly with the car rental supplier. Cancellation charges apply as follows: Within 48 hours of placing the booking there is no charge (unless within 48 hours before the rental takes place). When cancelling after 48 hours of making the booking and up to 48 hours before the rental takes place a £15 charge is applied. When cancelling within 48 hours before the rental takes place the charge is 50% of the rental price, this is subject to a minimum £15 charge.
Cancellations and amendments can only be made during our normal office hours. Any requests received outside our normal office hours cannot be applied retrospectively.
In the event of a "NO SHOW" (when the client fails to collect a vehicle at the agreed pickup time and the booking is not cancelled in advance) we are unable to provide any refund. If clients end the hire duration early or are late collecting the vehicle, we are unable to refund any unused hire days.
Cancellation Protection is available to purchase only at the time of booking. If Cancellation Protection has been purchased, a full refund less the charge for Cancellation Protection will be given in all cases except in the event of a no-show where we are unable to refund any money. When cancelling within 48 hours of placing the booking, the additional amount charged for Cancellation Protection will also be refunded. The cost of Cancellation Protection is £0.50 per rental day with a minimum charge of £2.50 and a maximum charge of £10.00 per booking.
