Why choose Economy Car Hire?

We pride ourselves on providing you with the best customer service, no matter where you are travelling to. All of our prices in Sri Lanka include excess reimbursement insurance. We’ve got you covered in the event of a collision or theft of the vehicle.

Do I need a Visa to holiday in Sri Lanka?

If you are travelling to Sri Lanka, you will need to obtain a tourist visa. These can be issued for periods of up to 30 days. You are able to arrange this upon arrival, although it is advised that you organise this before you depart. Visit the Electronic Travel Authority website.

Which locations do we cover?

Colombo Airport (also known as Bandaranaike International Airport) – The most popular arrival point for most holidaymakers. Colombo, the capital city of the country is approximately 35 minutes’ drive from the airport.

The beach resorts along the south-west coast of Sri Lanka are about 2 hours’ drive away.

You will have to travel a little further to see the host of wildlife at Sri Lanka’s National Parks. Wilpattu National Park is about 4 hours away, whilst Wasgamuwa National Park is roughly a 5 and a half hour car journey.

As clichéd as it sounds, no matter how long the travel time, the wondrous sights that will greet you make it all the more worthwhile.

Colombo – Should you prefer to collect in the city, we can facilitate this too. Your hire car will give you ample opportunity to explore further afield. However, you have to travel in a Tri-shaw at least once when navigating the city centre.

Don’t miss: Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, National Zoological Gardens, Viharamahadevi Park and Arcade - Independence Square.

Things to see in Sri Lanka

Uda Walawe National Park is always popular. If you are keen to do some wildlife spotting during your trip then this is a great place. Catching sight of elephants, leopards and many others is a little easier here as the vegetation is sparser than in other national parks. As you are not permitted to take your hire car off the road, driving to the outskirts of this park and arranging a tour guide in a 4x4 vehicle is recommended as the best approach.

Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the remains of an ancient city. It’s located in the centre of the country. There are two towns nearby, Dambulla and Habarane which should provide good bases for a visit here. You will have to pay a fee to enter here, so make sure that you bring some funds with you. As the top is approximately 1,250 steps away, try to avoid attempting this at the hottest part of the day!

The Golden Temple of Dambulla is also a must-visit on your trip to Sri Lanka. It is only a reasonably short distance from Sigiriya too. There are five caves which are filled with a wide range of religious art.
