The beautiful Algarve is waiting to be explored when you collect your rental car from Faro Airport!
The southern coast of Portugal, best known as the Algarve, is undoubtedly the most popular area in the entire country. Celebrated for its warm year round temperatures, golden beaches and charming towns, it's a hit with holidaymakers of all ages.
If you are holidaying in the area, Faro Airport is your official gateway to the Algarve and it's just a 15 minute drive to the centre of Faro. Arrange cheap car hire to ensure you don't miss out on any of the sights.
It is worth noting that the main road, the A22, is a toll road, and you may need to use it during your travels around the Algarve. The toll can be paid in a variety of ways depending on your chosen car hire supplier. When viewing the quotation results, be sure to click on Show Rental Conditions underneath each vehicle in the results. If a transponder is provided by the suppler of the vehicle, it will be displayed here along with the applicable fees. If this is not detailed, you will need to purchase credit for the toll roads from a post office or supermarket in Portugal.
More often than not, the city of Faro itself often gets overlooked in favour of the neighbouring seaside resorts but with historic squares and sights, charming cafes and restaurants and much more to discover, a trip into Faro itself is definitely worth including in your holiday plans. Venture into the Old Town, known as Cidade Velha, where you can visit Faro Cathedral in addition to the Bishop's Palace close by.
Take your pick from plenty of gorgeous beaches such as Praia de Faro just a stone's throw from the city limits. Uninterrupted sand, great wind surfing conditions and its location ensures a bustling atmosphere during the summer months!
Why not take a drive up into the Monchique Mountains for hiking opportunities and mountain biking. The highest point in the Algarve is Pico da Fóia at a height of 902 metres. It's approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by car but well worth the journey and a great environment to escape to for a while.
