Collect a hire car and around 60km away you will find the second largest city of Limassol, where two major Cypriot festivals are held. Kolossi Castle is also a favourite tourist attraction here if you are visiting outside festival season and it provides a fascinating insight into the history of the city.
Ayia Napa is hugely popular for its gorgeous beaches and exciting nightlife. It has a reputation that tends to appeal mainly to younger travellers so if this isn't suitable, why not consider Protaras instead. It's only a 45 minute drive from Larnaca in your car and whilst it doesn't compromise on the lovely beaches it's a popular choice for families and couples and a great base for exploring some of the pretty local villages.
Drive 32km to Choirokoitia, one of the oldest and most fascinating Neolithic sites in Cyprus, dating all the way back to 7,000 BC where you can explore the defensive wall of the settlement in addition to the tombs and circular houses.
