Press Release Date: February 2009
UK based Economy Car Hire, one of the industry’s leading car hire brokers, warns holidaymakers must book their car hire early this year to avoid being left without a vehicle as fleets across the industry are reduced by up to 30%.
The knock on effects of decreased car manufacturing and the huge drop in car sales has resulted in car hire companies retaining and not increasing the number of vehicles at peak times. Usually car hire companies increase their fleet at peak times and then reduce them through winter and off-peak periods, but this year companies are keeping the same number of vehicles throughout the year and not increasing supply for traditionally busy periods.
Commenting on the reduction in fleet sizes, Managing Director of Economy Car Hire, Rory Sexton said: “Every year we have problems with availability at peak times, and this year it will be much worse, especially as holiday makers are leaving it to the last minute to book their vehicles. Car hire prices will definitely increase as car hire companies approach maximum fleet utilization at peak times. We are therefore urging holidaymakers to book early to avoid disappointment."
Economy Car Hire operates fully-inclusive car rental services in over 20 countries worldwide, including, Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, the Greek Islands, Cyprus, Malta, Slovenia and Croatia.
