Children can travel in the front seat provided they are seated in a child safety seat or they are over 150cm tall or are at least 12 years of age.

California - Children must be secured in an appropriate child restraint until aged 6 years.
Florida - Children aged 3 years and younger must be in a child restraint. The adult seat belt can be used (if a restraint is unavailable) for 4 & 5 year olds who also must be restrained.
