Festivals and Events

Athens Festival features famous Greek and foreign artists who perform a mixture of symphony orchestras, classical drama and dance at the Herodeion Amphitheatre. (June/ July)

Over the summer, held every Friday and Saturday evening, classical Greek drama is played out at the Epidaurus Festival. (June – August)

The Film Festival of Thessaloniki is an International Film Festival and is one of the most important cultural events here. (December)

European Music day is held over 3 days and showcases international, national bands and musicians all night long. (December)

The Sani Festival is a yearly celebration which brings together nationally and internationally acclaimed artists at Sani, Halkidiki. (July- September)

Most people choose to visit Greece for its long sandy beaches and varying landscapes. Historic sites, endless coastline, and the diverse influences that make up modern Greece make it a fantastic destination to discover and explore.

The varied terrain in Greece makes it the ideal environment for a variety of activities; hiking, skiing, outdoor adventure activities and sightseeing to name a few. When skiing, due to the resort’s proximity to Athens, you could combine this with a visit to the city and its archaeological sites such as the Acropolis. The peak period is from July to the end of August however, temperatures are still good during June and September. Visiting during winter will avoid the crowds and skiing is available on Mount Parnassós from January through to April.

Things to See and Do

Visit Athens and the great Acropolis, Parthenon, Ancient Agora and the National Archaeological Museum.

Visit Metéora and its exquisite Byzantine monasteries perched on top pinnacles of rock; these are arguably Greece’s most extraordinary sight.

The shallow fast flowing rivers of Greece offer excellent facilities for water based adventure sports such as rafting, kayaking and canoeing.

Take part in some wine tasting at one of the various vineyards which open their cellars to the public.

There are numerous thermal springs, visit one of the various spas and hydrotherapy centres which have developed around the country and get some well-deserved pampering as part of your trip.

Vikos Gorge in the Zagori regions offers a lovely setting for hiking and some spectacular views.

Visit the Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounio, it is dramatically set on a cliff above the cape and is a familiar landmark to boats at sea.

See the dormant volcano on the island of Nissyros.

Go skiing on Mount Parnassós from January through to April.

Visit Ósios Loukás mosaics, one of Greece’s finest Byzantine buildings.

Go exploring underground in one of six thousand Karst caves.

If you like bird watching, you can visit one of Greece’s eleven wetlands and 190 important bird areas. The most impressive are the Nestos Delta and the Prespa Lakes.

Visit Greece’s second city, Thessaloniki and its archaeological museum.

Explore Olympia, birth place of the Olympics and stroll around the Museum of the Olympic Games.
