Croatia is a country that is able to offer plenty of culture and brilliant beaches in addition a range of skiing runs for all abilities. Croatia may not initially spring to mind when considering countries to go skiing but if you happen to be in Croatia during the skiing season, it is well worth hitting the slopes. The resorts are generally very cheap in comparison to more popular European resorts and are easily accessible. Interestingly, Sljeme hosts a World Cup race in January called the Snow Queen Trophy where races are held for both male and female skiers.

Ski resorts in Croatia

Sljeme

Sljeme resort can be found on the slopes of the Medvednica Mountain. There is a summit elevation of 3,333ft with a base elevation of 2,024ft and a vertical drop of 1,312ft. There are 5 runs in total at the resort and 3 lifts in operation with 5km of intermediate skiing terrain. Night skiing is also available at the resort which is a different way to enjoy the slopes.

Bjelolasica

Bjelolasica is a decent sized resort with a summit elevation of 4,567ft and a vertical drop of 2,536ft. The season runs from 1st January until 1st May and there are 6 lifts in use at the resort. The terrain is varied and 20% is suitable for beginners, whilst 70% is suitable for intermediate skiers and the remaining 10% is assigned to advanced skiers.

Platak

Platak resort is located on the Radesevo Mountain in Northern Croatia and offers fantastic views of the Adriatic Ocean. The season usually lasts from December until March however it is vastly dependent on snow levels. The summit elevation is 4,472ft with a base elevation of 3,645ft and a vertical drop of 827ft. There are 7 ski runs here, 10km of cross country trails and 1 Terrain park. There are 4 ski lifts serving the resort which have a capacity of 5,000 skiers per hour. Whilst the skiing is suitable for all abilities, Platak is ideal for intermediate skiers.
