There are plenty of filling stations available on both islands, but most can be found in or close to one of main towns of Jersey or Guernsey.
Channel Islands car hire is undoubtedly one of the best ways to truly discover Guernsey. Explore the tiny winding lanes leading to an array of wonderful attractions and beautiful scenery!
The roads are especially narrow here, so it is advisable to drive with extra caution. It is also likely that you will meet horses, cattle, or cyclists so do drive carefully. Major routes are signposted, however if you do find yourself on some smaller roads, signs are few and far between so planning your route before you set off is essential.

Essential Driving Information
- Traffic drives on the left.
- Wear your seatbelt at all times in the front and rear of the vehicle.
- Accidents must be reported within 24 hours. Minor accidents not involving personal injury need not be reported assuming that driver's details are exchanged.
- It is illegal to drive whilst using a mobile phone.
- All public parking is free however many areas are disc zones and you must use a "parking clock" to display your arrival and departure times. They can be purchased at Police Stations, some petrol stations and the Information Bureau. Instructions for use are explained on the parking clock.
- You must not park facing oncoming traffic at night time and must display parking lights if you are not parked in a disc zone or approved parking place.
- Most town centre parking is short stay and limited to three hours or less. Long stay parking of 5 hours or more is usually further away but fills up quickly.
- The blood alcohol limit is 80mg alcohol per 100ml blood.
