Don’t Despair …

June 28th, 2010

Following England crashing out of the World Cup on Sunday, here are our top 5 ideas to get away from it all this summer;

  1. Portugal has so much to offer, rivers, forests, and lush valleys characterize the northern territory, and endless beaches, cliffs and coves make up the southern coastline. A beautiful country where you can relax and enjoy the amazing scenery.
  2. Malta is characterised by low hills, fields and indented coastline with harbours, bays, creeks, sandy beaches, and rocky coves. There is certainly a lot to keep you busy on a holiday to Malta.
  3. Cyprus has numerous beaches for you to relax and enjoy. A mixture of hills and valleys coupled with some amazing archaeological sites make this a fantastic place to visit.
  4. Spain offers a mixture of fabulous beaches, great night life, terrific monuments and vast expanses of natural scenery. Definitely a country with something to suit every taste.
  5. Turkey has plenty to see and do; sights and activities range from belly dancing, scuba diving, bazaars, beaches, and ancient temples. Golden sands, deep blue seas and bags of culture typify this spectacular place.

How to Avoid Paying For Expensive Car Hire Excess Insurance!

June 17th, 2010

Reports released this week have indicated that consumers are wasting more than £800m a year by purchasing excess waiver insurance directly from car hire companies. Specialist insurer iCarhireinsurance.com claims that at least £1bn is spent on excess cover for car rentals in Europe each year.

According to the research, 45% of drivers purchase excess waiver insurance when renting in a vehicle in many tourist destinations across Spain, Portugal and Cyprus. This will reduce the consumer’s liability to zero in the event of crash or damage. It is quite common for car hire companies to levy excesses of £500 – £1,500; leaving the consumer vulnerable to paying out high sums should they be involved in an accident.

Unlike most car hire companies, we provide full collision damage waiver across all our destinations. You‘ll benefit from fully inclusive, cheap car hire with no insurance excess! In the event of theft or collision, you’re left with nothing to pay, and no nasty credit card bills to surprise you when you get home! Book your fully inclusive car hire now!

Petrol Prices In Europe Soaring!

June 10th, 2010

A recent survey carried out by the Post Office found that petrol prices in Europe have risen by a third. Countries that have seen the largest increases are Sweden and Austria, with petrol prices rising by 24p and 21p per litre respectively.

Britain’s favourite holiday destination, Spain has seen one of the smallest increases. The cost of petrol in Spain has increased by 16p since 2009 now £1.08 per litre, with diesel following a similar trend, rising by 13p since 2009 to £1 per litre. Despite these increases, on average petrol and diesel prices in Spain are still among the lowest across Europe!

If you need to hire a car in Spain this summer, rental costs have spiralled over the last 18 months. The credit crunch has caused funding problems for Spanish car hire suppliers, meaning smaller fleets and less availability at peak times.  We would urge you to book your Spain car hire now!

Football Fans Must Get Travel Insurance!

June 4th, 2010

The holiday season is fast approaching and I’m sure many people have their summer break booked already! Whether you have chosen a beach getaway, an activity holiday, or a trip to South Africa for the World Cup; we would recommend you review your arrangements for travel insurance.

Recent studies have found that four in ten holidaymakers have lost baggage, suffered a medical emergency or been forced to cancel flights when travelling abroad. It has also been found that half of British tourists do not have travel insurance! It is estimated that 25,000 England supporters will be making their way to South Africa this summer. Travel insurance is essential, helping to protect from falling victim to thieves and fraudsters.

Do you know what you are covered for? Whether you have booked a package holiday, or made independent arrangements, Direct Travel Insurance will ensure that you are protected in any situation. If you frequently travel abroad, an annual policy should be considered. Many people opt to cover themselves exclusively for their trip dates. Starting a travel insurance policy with Direct Travel Insurance as soon as you have booked your holiday will protect you in the event of cancellation. Above all, make sure that you choose good quality cover, checking all exclusions; you do get what you pay for!

If you’re heading to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup, here are some ideas to help make the most of your air fare!

South Africa is a beautiful part of the world; many visit the area to go on a safari trip or to enjoy one of its many natural wonders such as Gods Window or Table Mountain. Don’t miss out; make the most of your visit by planning something to do alongside the World Cup!

  • After the first game in Rustenburg, why not venture to Rustenburg Nature Reserve or Pilanesburg Nature Resort, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
  • To make the most of your stay in Cape Town, visit Table Mountain. You can walk to the summit of this amazing flat topped wonder, or take the cable car and take in the views.
  • To relax after watching the game, take a stroll along some of Port Elizabeth’s golden beaches. Find The Boardwalk, and enjoy the shops, crafts, restaurants and entertainment!

Once the games are over, why not visit Kruger National Park to spot the big five (Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Leopards & Rhinos), or hire a car and drive down the south-east coast along the Garden Route. For many fans, this could be their only opportunity to visit South Africa and  there’s definitely more to see than just football.
